Extension to Gardeners Cottage, Blessington, Co. Wicklow.
The original building was a small 2-room gardeners cottage belonging to an old estate near Blessington, Co. Wicklow. When our client bought it, it had already been extended in a rather unimaginative way. Our client wanted to reorganise it and add more habitable space, but wanted to end up with a contemporary-looking building that was somewhat of a departure from, but nonetheless in sympathetic with, the old cottage.
Budgets were tight as was the site when it came to fitting everything in, including an expansion and upgrading of the septic-tank arrangement. Planning permission wasn’t a breeze either as the planners wanted to ensure that the rustic look of the original cottage wasn’t going to be compromised too much.
